Hungary plans to impose new restrictions on imports of products from Ukraine

The Hungarian government intends to impose new restrictions on imports of Ukrainian agricultural products. This was stated by Hungarian Minister of Agriculture Istvan Nagy in the publication AR.

According to him, this step should protect Hungarian farmers from market fluctuations caused by cheaper Ukrainian imports.

Nagy said that the European Union's decision to allow duty-free imports from Ukraine has led to a "serious oversupply and a significant decline in prices" on the European agricultural market.

In this regard, he accused the EU of failing to protect European farmers who were unable to compete with cheaper imports and said that Hungary would take additional protective measures "within its national competence".

"Brussels and the European Commission have betrayed Hungarian farmers and instead support Ukrainian oligarchs," the Hungarian minister said.

According to him, the government has adopted a five-point plan to help farmers, including a requirement for sellers and logistics companies to report to the government on banned products imported through Ukraine, regardless of the country of origin.

Nagy added that processed products made from Ukrainian grain would also be subject to the restrictions.
