It is "technically difficult" to block Telegram in Ukraine, just like any other messenger. This was stated in an interview by Illia Vitiuk, head of cybersecurity of the SBU.
"Even if it is partially done, the ban can be circumvented by using VPNs and other technologies," the SBU official said.
Vitiuk said that there is a lot of Russian propaganda in all social networks, but there are also many pro-Ukrainian channels in the "cart" that contribute to disinformation.
"Today, the general rule is that there is no such thing as a secure messenger. There are technical solutions that allow access not only to Telegram, but also to Signal, Viber and others. And if you take more expensive and complex technical solutions, you can get access to the entire device, and then the attacker will have everything there. You can turn on the microphone or camera, no matter what messenger you are using," said Vitiuk.
He noted that the administration of Telegram has already blocked several Russian publics in Ukraine, which the authorities had requested. Some more are in line.
