TikTok may be banned in Ukraine if the social network continues to fail to respond to cases of Russian propaganda. This was stated by Yaroslav Yurchyshyn, Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada Committee on Freedom of Speech.
According to him, Ukraine does not need the example of its partners to ban TikTok.
"Ukraine is a sovereign state, it can do anything without looking back at its partners. We have the practice of blocking social networks, appeals from special services, NSDC meetings, presidential decrees, enactment, lawsuits, if necessary," the MP said.
Yurchyshyn said that the Center for Countering Disinformation published a list of accounts on TikTok that are engaged in Russian propaganda, but there was no reaction from the social network. According to him, if the social network continues to fail to respond, there may be a need to block it.
However, for now, the authorities see no need to ban TikTok.
"So far, as I understand it, the authorities do not feel the need to do so. And it's always better to try to negotiate first than to take the toughest measures right away," the politician emphasized.
