Razumkov: General Staff confirms that the new draft law provides for mobilization from the age of 18

The General Staff confirmed at yesterday's meeting of the Rada Committee on National Security that the new draft law provides for mobilization from the age of 18. This was stated by MP Dmytro Razumkov.

The issue of removing this provision was put to a vote, but there were not enough votes.

"If a child turns 18, if he or she has completed basic military training or basic military service, he or she is included in the register of conscripts and can be automatically sent to the front. The President, the Cabinet of Ministers, the mono-majority, the relevant committee and the General Staff know about this, as it acknowledged today at the Committee meeting. And when we put forward an amendment to remove this shameful, absolutely illogical and wrong thing, the committee did not vote for it, not giving the proper number of votes," Razumkov said.

Razumkov said that during the committee meeting he asked whether it could be possible that a person who completed basic military training at the age of 18 and does not continue training further will be mobilized at the age of 19 if this draft law is voted through. It should be noted that currently, studying at a university gives grounds for a postponement.

A representative of the General Staff replied that "a citizen becomes conscripted and can be mobilized."
