Head of Ukrenergo: Russians also attacked thermal and hydroelectric power plants, as well as main substations

Volodymyr Kudrytskyi, Chairman of the Board of NPC Ukrenergo, called the night shelling the biggest attack on Ukraine's energy system during the war. He said this during a telethon.

"It was probably the biggest attack on the energy system ever. It is characterized by the fact that combined measures of destruction were used. That is, not only cruise missiles, for example, but also "Shaheds" and ballistic missiles. The attack was carried out in different regions of Ukraine, on thermal and hydroelectric power plants, as well as on main substations," Kudrytskyi said.

For the first time in a long time, Ukrenergo is forced to introduce emergency power outages.

"Power supply restrictions during today, while power engineers are eliminating the consequences of the attacks, may be in different regions, in particular in the left-bank Ukraine. These are controlled restrictions, the power engineers need them to ensure that the system works as a whole and that we can safely restore the operation of the affected power facilities," said Kudrytskyi.

Commenting on the damage caused by the shelling of the Dnipro HPP, he said there is no risk of a dam breach. The damage is significant, but it concerns the hydroelectric plant itself, not its dam.

"The assessment of damage and scale is underway. In a few hours we will have a clearer picture," Kudrytskyi said.
