Explosions were heard in Engels on the night of March 20. The authorities claim that drones were allegedly shot down. This was reported in the Telegram channel SHOT.

According to the source, there were up to 4 explosions. Air defense was allegedly working previously.


"We heard 2 to 4 loud explosions, which "shook the windows in the frames". According to preliminary data, the air defense system was activated. Residents of the city claim that they heard a siren before that. There is no official information on casualties or damage," SHOT channel reports. 


The governor of Saratov region, Roman Busargin, also reported on the alleged operation of air defense systems.


"Less than an hour ago, drones were eliminated over Engels. The air defense system worked in a timely and effective manner. There were no casualties and no damage to infrastructure when the debris fell," Busargin wrote.

Social media users report that explosions were heard near the airfield, a fire broke out and rescuers arrived.


There is a military air base in Engels. Strategic long-range bombers Tu-160 and Tu-95MS, which have been striking at Ukraine, are based there.


The air distance to the Engels airfield from the Ukrainian border is 614 kilometers.
