On September 1, 2025, Ukraine will stop funding of some schools from the state budget. These are schools with fewer than 45 students. According to the official newspaper of the Verkhovna Rada, Holos Ukrayiny, the Cabinet of Ministers made the changes.
"In order to stimulate the improvement of the efficiency of the school network and the quality of education, it is planned not to allow educational institutions with less than 45 students (from September 1, 2025) and less than 60 students (from September 1, 2026) to be financed through educational subventions," the report says.
The changes are also intended to bring these documents in line with the Law "On the State Budget for 2024".
The government's decision also made a number of other changes: increased the amount of time off for teachers of secondary education institutions and inclusive resource centers, adding vacation days and financial assistance for health improvement; the list of areas where the remaining educational subvention can be used was changed; and access to the educational subvention was opened to private institutions.
