SBU accuses UOC cleric of justifying Russian aggression

The Security Service of Ukraine has served a notice of suspicion to a cleric of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church in Cherkasy region, who is accused of justifying Russia's armed aggression against Ukraine. This was reported by the SBU press service.

"He was spreading pro-Kremlin narratives on social media to discredit Ukrainian defenders. In particular, he accused Ukrainian defenders of preparing for military provocations in Odesa and called the fighters of the Azov special unit 'Nazis'," the agency said.

He accompanied his messages with photos and videos from Russian propaganda resources.

"During a search at the man's place of residence, law enforcement officers found prohibited symbols and a phone from which he spread anti-Ukrainian agitation," the statement said.

Law enforcement officers served the cleric a notice of suspicion under the article on justifying Russia's armed aggression against Ukraine and glorification of its participants. The issue of choosing a preventive measure is being decided. If the man's guilt is proven, he faces up to eight years in prison.
