Leak of German officers' conversation was due to insecure connection - Pistorius

The leak of the German officers' conversation happened due to an "insecure connection". One of the participants in the online conference, while in Singapore, used the hotel's mobile network or Wi-Fi. This was announced by German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius, answering questions from journalists, Bild reports.

He emphasized that the Bundeswehr's communication systems were not hacked, the leak was due to a private mistake. The Bundeswehr officers used a version of the American Webex platform that corresponds to the security level of the information discussed.

"Not all participants followed the secure connection procedure. According to available data, there was a data leak of a participant in Singapore. This officer connected to a secret Bundeswehr conversation through an 'open connection'," Pistorius said.

The minister called it a "serious mistake," but noted that its consequences were "manageable." Boris Pistorius assured that he did not feel "any irritation" during the negotiations with the allies and did not have the feeling that Germany was not trusted.

These are the first results of the investigation into the leaked conversation between the German officers. Pistorius initiated a preliminary disciplinary investigation against the participants of the online conference. The publication noted that Brigadier General Frank Greffe was in Singapore on February 19 to attend an air show.
