Law enforcement officers detained two men suspected of thefts from apartments and shops in Kyiv. During the detention, one of the suspects tried to blow up the policemen with a grenade, Kyiv police reported on Facebook on March 4.

Officers of the Criminal Investigation Department of the capital's main police headquarters and the Darnytsia Police Department caught two local residents in a theft from a pet store, the report said. According to Kyiv police chief Dmytro Shumeiko, the accomplices used scrap metal to open the front door, damaged the premises' CCTV cameras, and then stole a laptop, construction tools, and pet supplies. They put the stolen goods in a car and tried to escape, but were caught by police officers.

The 36-year-old driver was detained near the car, and his 37-year-old partner began to resist, threatening the police with a knife, then pulled a live grenade from his pocket and pulled out a ring. The police managed to intercept and defuse the grenade. The man was detained.

During a search of the suspects' car, police seized stolen property and other material evidence, the report said. Law enforcement officers found that the men had previously been prosecuted for similar crimes. One of them is already accused of committing burglaries.

The defendants were served a notice of suspicion under Part 4 of Art. 185 - theft combined with breaking and entering committed under martial law. In addition, the man who threatened the police with a grenade was also notified of suspicion under Part 1 of Article 263 - illegal handling of weapons and ammunition and under Article 348 - attempted murder of a law enforcement officer.
