The Speaker of the US House of Representatives, Republican Mike Johnson, said that the bill on additional funding for Ukraine will be considered as soon as the issue of funding the federal government is resolved. Johnson said this in an interview with the Voice of America.
Johnson noted that the House of Representatives is considering all available options for additional funding for national security and will return to this issue "as soon as the government receives funding."
Earlier, at a briefing on February 29, the Speaker predicted that the House would probably not consider aid to Ukraine this week, but instead focus on border security and avoiding a shutdown.
"If we're going to fix everything in this world, we have to fix America first. That means two things: it means securing the border and funding our government. And so we're working very hard this week to do both of those things," Johnson said.
Also during the briefing, the politician noted that it took the Senate four months to pass the supplemental funding bill, and the House of Representatives received the document a week and a half ago.
