Avdiivka may end up under the control of Russian troops, as Ukraine does not have enough artillery shells. John Kirby, coordinator of the White House National Security Council, said this at a briefing.
He said that the fighting in the east of Ukraine is incredibly intense. In particular, this applies to the situation around Avdiivka.
"Unfortunately, Ukrainians report that the situation is critical. Russians continue to put pressure on Ukrainian positions every day. Avdiivka may end up under Russian control. To a large extent, this is happening because Ukrainian troops are running out of artillery ammunition on the ground," Kirby said.
The official reminded that since the Congress has not yet approved new funding for $60 billion in aid to Ukraine, the United States cannot provide artillery to Ukrainian defenders to disrupt Russian attacks.
"Russian troops have now reached the Ukrainian fortifications in Avdiivka and are beginning to overcome the Ukrainian defense. The price of Congress's inaction is enormous," Kirby added.
