The electricity tariff for population in Ukraine may be doubled to just under UAH 6. This was stated by People's Deputy Serhiy Nagornyak in an interview with Telegraph. At the same time, he emphasized the importance of maintaining subsidies for people unable to pay such tariffs.
Nagornyak noted that Ukraine should support people in this situation in cooperation with its partners: "The state, together with our partners, should lend a shoulder to people in this case. But we must understand that the state cannot subsidize everyone without exception."
According to him, the liberalization of tariffs will also allow the two state-owned companies to stop subsidizing the population and raise funds for the construction of Khmelnytskyi NPP Units 3 and 4. In addition, Ukrhydroenergo will be able to start construction of the 1000 MW Kanivska HPP, which is estimated to cost USD 1.2 billion.
It should be noted that the current electricity tariff for population is UAH 2.64, but the market price for electricity ranges from UAH 5 to 6 per kilowatt-hour, excluding dispatch and delivery fees.
