The USA assured of seizure of Russian assets in favor of Ukraine - Shmyhal

The United States has assured Ukraine of the future seizure of Russian assets to finance Kyiv. This was stated by Prime Minister of Ukraine Denys Shmyhal, Politico reports.

"We have all the assurances from the United States about long-term support for Ukraine - for example, the seizure of Russian assets to finance Ukraine's recovery. We are working hard with President Biden's administration and Congress to get support for 2024. We will see how the conditions develop in 2025," the Ukrainian prime minister said when asked about Trump's possible rise to power.

Shmyhal also noted that this money is important for Kyiv.

"On the one hand, it will allow us to finance our budget, and on the other hand, it will allow us to implement the process of rapid reconstruction of Ukraine, despite the war," the prime minister said.

Asked whether he is afraid of Donald Trump's second coming to the White House, Shmyhal said that the majority of Americans support Ukraine: "I believe that any president of the United States will support our struggle for civilized values, our common values."

Commenting on Trump's statement that he could end the war in 24 hours, Shmyhal said: "There is no one who would like to end this war more than Ukrainians. We believe that President Zelensky's peace plan is the only tool to achieve a long-term and sustainable peace."
