Russia launches Shaheds and more than 50 missiles at Ukraine: how many were shot down by air defense forces

On the night and morning of January 8, Russian troops attacked Ukraine with Shahed kamikaze drones and more than 50 missiles of various types. Air defense forces managed to destroy 26 enemy targets. This was reported in the Telegram of the Air Force of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

It is noted that the Russians launched a large-scale attack using cruise, air, ballistic, anti-aircraft guided missiles and attack drones.


A total of 59 means of enemy air attack were recorded, including 8 Shahed-136/131 attack drones, 7 S-300/S-400 anti-aircraft guided missiles, 4 X-47M2 Kinzhal air-to-air ballistic missiles, 24 X-101/X-555/X-55 cruise missiles, 8 X-22 cruise missiles, 6 Iskander-M ballistic missiles, and 2 X-31P guided air missiles.


Critical infrastructure, industrial and civilian military facilities were targeted.


The ballistic missiles were aimed at Kharkiv, Dnipropetrovsk, Zaporizhzhia and Khmelnytskyi regions.


As a result of the military actions, the air defense system managed to effectively destroy 8 Shahed-136/131 attack drones and 18 X-101/X-555/X-55 cruise missiles.
