Ukraine is preparing for a new Russian offensive near Kharkiv. The Telegraph reports this with reference to anonymous local officials.
The publication writes that yesterday the Russian Federation shelled the city and 15 surrounding settlements, and this is seen as preparation for a large-scale offensive in the coming weeks, a source close to the Armed Forces said.
"There was shelling of military targets throughout the region throughout the day," it said.
Military intelligence reportedly believes that new massive shelling of Kharkiv could take place this weekend - on January 7, when Russia celebrates Christmas. And soon a ground offensive may begin, with January 15 as a possible date.
It is worth noting that Russia has been trying to advance toward Kupyansk in the Kharkiv region for several months.
