China continues to avoid condemning the Russian army's missile attacks on residential buildings and civilian infrastructure in Ukraine, calls on the "relevant parties" to exercise maximum restraint and hopes for a political solution to the "crisis." This is stated in the response of the office of the spokesperson for the Chinese Foreign Ministry to an information request from an Ukrinform correspondent in China regarding Beijing's reaction to Russia's massive missile attack on January 2.
"China's position on the Ukrainian crisis is consistent and clear. We continue to call on the relevant parties to exercise maximum restraint, avoid attacks on civilian objects and protect the safety of civilians," the Chinese embassy said.
China notes that dialogue and negotiation remain the only way to resolve the "Ukrainian crisis" and hopes for a commitment from all parties to a political settlement of the conflict, an end to the war and an easing of the situation.
Despite the evidence of the destruction of residential buildings as a result of missile strikes, China does not express sympathy for the affected civilians in Ukrainian cities and refrains from condemning the aggressor's violations of international humanitarian law.
