The Ukrainian Armed Forces will begin to leave the cities if the United States does not provide aid in time. This statement was made to The New York Times by Yehor Chernev, deputy chairman of the Verkhovna Rada Committee on National Security, Defense and Intelligence, a member of the "Servant of the People" party.
"Now we are losing some territories, but if the US aid is delayed, we will start losing cities," Chernev told the publication.
"Russia's recent progress near the village of Robotyne is a sobering event for Ukraine amid a decline in Western military aid," the NYT comments.
The publication writes that the Russian army is now driving the Ukrainian army out of the territories that were barely captured during the Ukrainian offensive in the summer. After the offensive ended, the Ukrainian Armed Forces went on the defensive and are now having problems in holding back the Russian offensive.
"Without American ammunition, we are starting to lose territory that was hard won this summer," Chernev said.
The NYT writes that the biggest blow to Ukraine and its image would be the loss of Robotyne, the only trophy of the summer offensive.
