The city council of Troisdorf, Germany, has blocked the plans of a large arms company to expand local production. The products were intended for Ukraine. This was reported by Euractiv.

The publication writes that the mayor of Troisdorf rarely plays a role in international politics, but in early December, German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius spoke out about blocking the expansion of production.

"The pressure is great because there is a real problem with ammunition in Europe and Germany," Pistorius said.

The Euractiv publication notes that the authorities in Troisdorf have been in a dispute for several weeks with the arms giant Diehl Defense, whose local plant produces the ignition devices needed for a significant amount of explosive materials such as rockets and missile charges.

These parts are used in the production of the IRIS-T air defense systems, three of which have been supplied by the German government to Ukraine.

Defense Minister Boris Pistorius identified the pressure that exists in Europe and Germany on ammunition as one of the reasons for not deciding to expand production.
