Russians seize positions in Zaporizhzhia region, previously repelled by Ukrainian Armed Forces during counteroffensive - ISW

The American Institute for the Study of War (ISW) reports that Russians have captured previously lost positions in the Zaporizhzhia region. This is stated in the ISW's report for December 27, based on the study of data.

"Russian troops have recently advanced in the west of Zaporizhzhia region and recaptured positions that Ukrainian forces seized during a counteroffensive in the summer of 2023," the ISW report says.

The institute connects this with the fact that "Ukrainian troops retreated to more protected positions near Robotyne in the winter."

Analysts refer to geolocation footage published on December 14 and 27. They show that Russian troops have advanced west of Verbove.

"The limited Russian gains could become significant, especially if the West ends military aid to Ukraine," ISW writes.
