Grants for Ukrainian farmers from western regions: details

The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations has announced the start of the second cycle of the grant program for Ukrainian farmers, the press service of the Ministry of Agrarian Policy reports.


The program is open to small producers from four western regions - Lviv, Zakarpattia, Ivano-Frankivsk, and Chernivtsi - including those that produce geographic brands such as Zakarpattia honey, Hutsul sheep cheese, and Hutsul cow cheese.


Applications are open through the State Agrarian Register until January 31, 2024.

Producers will be required to contribute a certain share of the total costs, and the amount to be covered by the grantee will vary depending on the chosen value chain.


Grants will be paid in Ukrainian hryvnia at the UN exchange rate in the amounts of:

→ up to UAH 370,000 ($10,000) for small agricultural producers;

→ up to UAH 925,000 ($25,000) for agricultural micro and small enterprises, agricultural cooperatives and associations of producers of products with geographical indications.


The approval rate for the first cycle of the program was about 65%: 138 applications were selected out of 212 applications submitted to the State Agrarian Register.


The total amount of grant support amounted to $1.73 million. The most popular investments were tractors, solar panels, specialized production and processing equipment for the value chain.
