In 2023, Latvia handed over 271 cars confiscated from drunk drivers to Ukraine. The total value of the transferred cars is 903,453 euros, Delfi reports.
Currently, the government is preparing documents to transfer 34 more cars to Ukraine. In total, they cost 161,880 euros.
The law that allowed Ukraine to transfer cars confiscated from drunk drivers was adopted in Latvia in March 2023. According to the law, confiscated vehicles can be transferred free of charge to the government of Ukraine to eliminate the consequences of the war-related emergency and support Ukrainian society.
Reinis Pozniaks, a representative of Agendum and founder of the "Twitter-convoy", said that this is an important support for Ukraine, as every car at the front is a saved life.
