Ukraine will continue to face a shortage of artillery ammunition. And to compensate for the lack of shells, Ukraine is increasing the production of kamikaze drones. This was stated by Deputy Minister of Defense of Ukraine Ivan Havryliuk, BBC reports.
"As for artillery ammunition, this issue will continue to arise. Therefore, Ukraine decided to address these issues by creating a powerful UAV production facility," Havryliuk said in an interview.
In addition, Ukraine is increasing its own production of ammunition "of almost all nomenclatures of the former USSR," the deputy defense minister said.
However, most of the Western systems that Ukraine has received from its partners use a different caliber - the most common is 155 mm. Therefore, together with Western companies, Ukraine plans to produce such shells on its territory.
"We can't talk" about producing 155-mm shells "in large quantities," but Havryliuk expects that next year the Ukrainian defense industry will produce "enough of them to cover the difference between what is needed (on the front line) and the number of shells that partners can provide."
