The mayor of the Dorohusk gmina (administrative unit, community) did not allow Polish carriers to block the Yagodyn-Dorohusk border crossing point on the border with Ukraine. This was reported by the Polish edition RMF24.
According to the publication, a new blockade was going to begin on December 18, despite the fact that this checkpoint was unblocked only on Monday, December 11. The organizer of the previous strike announced his intention to close the truck access to the border with Ukraine again.
However, the mayor of the Dorohusk Commune, Wojciech Sawa, citing the law and significant financial losses, banned the blockade.
"The protest affected not only drivers. Entrepreneurs, workers and other social groups who are unemployed are the losers, and this is a decisive factor," the mayor said.
In response, the carriers are going to go to court, while simultaneously filing new applications to protest at other checkpoints. They have seven days to appeal the mayor's decision.
Despite the fact that Yahodyn-Dorohusk is unblocked, it takes more than a day for the entire queue of trucks to pass through.
