Shmyhal urged everyone to save light: the country is facing energy shortages due to the cold weather

Ukrainians were urged to reduce electricity consumption to prevent the introduction of blackout schedules. Such a threat arose due to a shortage of power in the energy system amid the cold weather. This was stated by Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal.

The government notes that a drop in temperature, emergency repairs, and limited operation of solar power plants due to cloudy weather "has led to a power shortage in our power system."

As a result, Ukrenergo was forced to bring in emergency assistance from Europe.

"This is an emergency measure, and it is not always guaranteed," emphasized Shmyhal.

The official emphasized that the government and the energy sector call on "everyone to reduce electricity consumption."

"Especially from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Do not turn on powerful electrical appliances at the same time. Postpone laundry to the night hours. Turn off the lights in unused rooms," the statement reads.

Shmyhal also added that shopping centers, shops, and restaurants can reduce the intensity of lighting on signs and shop windows, and businesses can review their production process in terms of energy efficiency.

"All this will help avoid the introduction of blackout schedules. Responsible electricity consumption by each of us means light for everyone," he said.
