Orban compared: Hungarian language in Zakarpattia in the USSR was better than in Ukraine

Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban said that the situation with the Hungarian language and education in Zakarpattia under the USSR was better than it is now under independent Ukraine. This was reported by RTL.hu.

During a discussion of the situation of Hungarians abroad, Orban noted that the worst situation is now in Zakarpattia in Ukraine.

Here, according to him, the political leadership is following a path that leads nowhere and which Budapest cannot support.

"I'm not exaggerating when I say that the situation with the Hungarian language and education was better during the Soviet Union than it is now under the Ukrainian state," Orban said.

Orban said that Hungary is ready to provide all possible assistance to the Hungarians in Zakarpattia, especially since, in his opinion, Ukraine continues to punish the people of Zakarpattia even during the war.

He also criticized Kyiv for not clearly defining its military goals.

"It is very difficult to help a country that is at war without an internationally recognized military goal," Orban said.

The Hungarian Prime Minister noted that at the last EU meeting, he proposed to develop a "plan B" for Ukraine, which, in his opinion, should go beyond the "current hopeless situation" where thousands of people are dying in a "Christian-civil war."
