European Council President Charles Michel will visit Kyiv early next week. This was reported by Politico.
According to the publication, Michel's visit is planned as a sign of respect for the events on the Maidan, which began on November 21, 2013.
The protests in the Ukrainian capital began after former President Viktor Yanukovych abandoned the political and economic association agreement with the European Union. Russia called these events a "coup" initiated by the West and used them to justify its military actions in Ukraine in 2014.
The visit comes ahead of the upcoming European Council summit in mid-December. There, EU leaders will discuss the European Commission's recommendation to start formal negotiations on Ukraine's possible accession to the European Union.
