15 former employees of former President Viktor Yanukovych's Security Service have been notified of suspicion of desertion, their superiors forged documents 10 years ago and presented the guards' escape to Russia as a dismissal. This was stated by the State Bureau of Investigation.

"On February 21, 2014, Yanukovych and his partner, accompanied by security guards - military personnel of Administration of State Guard of Ukraine - flew by helicopter from his Mezhyhirya residence to Kharkiv. The next day, he arrived in Donetsk, from where he attempted to illegally fly to Russia. After the flight was blocked by the State Border Guard Service, Yanukovych and his security chiefs entered into a criminal conspiracy with representatives of Russian law enforcement agencies to cross the state border of Ukraine. For this purpose, a plan was developed and agreed upon to transport the fugitive president and persons from his inner circle, including his son and his partner, as well as his security guards, first to the territory of the Russian military airfield in the Autonomous Republic of Crimea," the statement said.

Later, according to the SBI, Yanukovych decided to leave the territory of Ukraine while staying on the territory of the Russian Black Sea Fleet military unit near Sevastopol.

In order to provide himself with professional security in the future, he decided to persuade the servicemen of Administration of State Guard of Ukraine, who were performing their military duty to ensure his personal security, to desert and leave with him to the Russian Federation.
