The European Council has decided to open accession negotiations with Bosnia and Herzegovina. This was announced by the head of the European Council Charles Michel in a message on the X platform.
"The European Council has just decided to open EU accession negotiations with Bosnia and Herzegovina. Congratulations! Your place is in our European family," Michel wrote.
He noted that such a decision is a key step on the way to joining the European Union. After that, it is necessary to continue working hard to become an EU member.
At the same time, the conclusions of the European Council state that the body proposes that the European Commission prepare a framework for negotiations with Bosnia and Herzegovina after all the necessary steps have been taken.
As a reminder, Bosnia and Herzegovina applied for EU membership in 2016.
