The Cabinet of Ministers of Latvia has decided to allocate 50 thousand euros from the state budget to contribute to the "Grain from Ukraine" humanitarian aid program. This was reported by the press service of the Latvian Foreign Ministry.
"Grain from Ukraine" started its operations in Ukraine in 2022 and has already successfully supplied 170 thousand tons of grain to four countries: Somalia, Ethiopia, Kenya and Yemen.
The Latvian diplomatic mission points out that Russia's full-scale war against Ukraine has led to a global food security crisis, especially in countries with food shortages. Contributions to the "Grain from Ukraine" program help Ukraine in its efforts to contribute to global food security, which is a key element of the "Peace Formula" presented by Ukraine.
This is Latvia's second contribution to this program, as 50 thousand euros were also allocated in 2022. Such active participation in global initiatives strengthens Latvia's international reputation and positive recognition.
