At the December summit of EU leaders, a broad and comprehensive aid package for Ukraine is to be approved. This was stated by Romanian Foreign Minister Luminita Odobescu during a briefing before a meeting of EU foreign ministers in Brussels.
The minister emphasized that the summit is expected to send a "clear political signal" of commitment to provide further support to Ukraine, which is facing large-scale military aggression from Russia.
Odobescu said that EU leaders plan to reach a political agreement on the creation of a financial instrument for defense assistance to Ukraine under the European Peace Fund.
They also plan to agree on security commitments and start membership negotiations with Ukraine and Moldova by the end of the year, in line with the European Commission's recommendations.
The minister also emphasized Bucharest's support for the adoption of the 12th EU sanctions package against Russia, as it is "important to maintain pressure on Russia."
