Germany will strengthen Ukraine: Two new IRIS-T air defense systems by the end of the year

By the end of 2023, Ukraine will receive two more IRIS-T air defense systems from Germany to protect civilian and energy infrastructure from Russian attacks in winter. This was announced by German Ambassador to Ukraine Martin Jaeger during a special NV event "Ukraine's Formula for Success" on November 11.

The ambassador emphasized that Germany's support for Ukraine focuses on air defense, including the supply of systems such as Gepard, IRIS-T and Patriot.

"We are very pleased to be able to join this, and now we are looking at the near future, namely the winter. We will be providing additional air defense systems, including Patriot and IRIS-T," Jaeger said.

The ambassador noted that three IRIS-T systems are already operating in Ukraine, and five more are planned to be deployed by the end of the year.

Jaeger expressed confidence that this will provide additional security to Ukrainian cities, ensuring protection against possible Russian attacks.

He also emphasized that Germany is actively involved in strengthening the defense of Ukraine's energy systems, focusing on maintaining energy capabilities.

"We believe it is very important that this winter passes without any blackouts," he emphasized.
