Demographic crisis: in 10 years there will be 26 to 35 million people in Ukraine

Ella Libanova, director of the Ptukha Institute for Demography and Social Studies, said that the demographic situation in Ukraine in 10 years will be much worse than anyone imagines.

"The variation of the forecast for 2033, which we made for 10 years, is from 26 to 35 million within the limits of 1991," she said during a telethon.

According to her, a return to the figure of 45 million people is out of the question.

"This is a long conversation about the potential for demographic growth, about the old population, about losses due to low birth rates, due to too high premature mortality, especially among men. To this was added migration, which today has become the main driver of demographic dynamics - everything is bad, very bad," Libanova emphasized.

At the same time, she noted that the natural population decline is actually affects not only Ukraine but also all European countries, but Europe is compensating for it with an influx of immigrants.
