The French government will stop supplying Ukraine with weapons from its arsenals so that Kyiv can start purchasing weapons from French manufacturers using specially allocated funds. This was stated by the Minister of the Armed Forces of France, Sébastien Lecornu, on the LCI TV channel.
"We are now negotiating with our Ukrainian colleagues to force Ukraine to buy new howitzers using money from a special fund so that the French military no longer has to transfer guns from its arsenals," he said.
The French defense minister also recalled the recently published report of the parliament, according to which the amount of French military aid to Ukraine has already amounted to 3 billion euros. He noted that €200 million had been allocated from the budget to a special fund to support Kyiv. With these funds, Ukraine can buy weapons, but only from French suppliers.
He noted that Paris has focused on providing Kyiv with air defense systems, including anti-drone capabilities, and equipment for the ground forces, including artillery and vehicles, and added that 49 self-propelled howitzers - 30 French and 19 Danish - have been handed over to Kyiv.
