On Sunday evening, November 5, Ukrainians in several regions witnessed a rare optical phenomenon - the Northern Lights. It was observed in Kyiv, Zaporizhzhia, Kherson, Odesa, and Donetsk regions.
The optical phenomenon occurred at about 19:30, and the glow had a characteristic red-pink-green color.
Kharkiv astronomer Volodymyr Kazhanov explained that the red sky was observed in different regions of Ukraine due to a geomagnetic storm.
"On the night of November 5-6, 2023, Ukraine and many countries in the Northern Hemisphere will see a bright aurora! At the moment, it is also relevant for the northern countries of Europe. There was a powerful geomagnetic storm (Kr7 at 17:40 UTC) associated with the bombardment of our planet by a coronal mass ejection that occurred on the Sun a few days ago," the astronomer said.
This is the second northern lights in Ukraine - the first was on April 24.
