Language Ombudsman: Only state language should be used in schools

During breaks, teachers and students should speak only the state language. This statement was made by the Language Ombudsman of Ukraine Taras Kremin during an interview with Ukrinform.

Kremin reminded that according to Ukrainian law, the language of the educational process is the state language.

He also noted that, according to the Ministry of Education, the educational process includes lessons, breaks, educational work, communication in classrooms, teachers' rooms, canteens, corridors, sports halls, at the stadium, and on school grounds. The Ombudsman believes that the state language should be used everywhere within these activities.

"It would be great if the explanation was reinforced by the assistance of school principals, teachers of Ukrainian language and literature, and history teachers. After all, education also performs an educational function - fostering respect for language, culture, values, and national symbols. Especially in the context of the Russian-Ukrainian war," Kremin said.

He is convinced that it is important to strengthen language requirements at all levels of education, because violations from kindergartens "pass" to schools and then to universities.

"Education is the future. The quality of education directly affects how we will see the citizen of the future country," the language ombudsman emphasized.
