The Russian army has intensified its offensive in the Kupyansk direction. The head of the press service of the Eastern grouping of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Illia Yevlash, said this on October 18 during a telethon.
According to him, 163 Russians were killed or wounded in this part of the front over the past day, and the Ukrainian defense forces destroyed 24 pieces of Russian weapons and military equipment.
"The enemy is now focusing on the Kharkiv sector near Synkivka and Ivanivka, in particular, 15 attacks were registered over the past day, all in the Kupyansk direction. The enemy has not yet touched the Lyman direction, probably because it has been well got in some good shots," said Yevlash.
The speaker noted that the enemy is actively using artillery, mortars and drones. In his opinion, Russian troops have not abandoned the idea of full occupation of Luhansk and Donetsk regions.
"Now the goal of this offensive is to 'reach' Kupyansk with a large amount of equipment and manpower and try to surround it and then capture it. But we have a powerful fortified area there, powerful forces that are holding back this invasion, and so far the enemy has not had any success there, and will not have any in the future," added the representative of the Eastern group of the Ukrainian Armed Forces.
