The Verkhovna Rada has supported the draft law on strengthening financial monitoring of politically exposed persons (PEPs). This was announced by MP Yaroslav Zheleznyak.
According to the draft law, instead of three years after taking office, top officials will receive virtually lifetime PEP status.
Zheleznyak noted that in this version, the IMF should consider the adoption of the draft law in the second reading as fulfillment of the requirements of the loan program.
It will also be the last step to start negotiations on Ukraine's membership in the EU.
PEPs are individuals who hold high public office or international positions, as well as their close relatives. In Ukraine, PEPs include persons holding high public office, such as the president, prime minister, ministers and their deputies, MPs, high-ranking political figures, officials of the judiciary, law enforcement, justice, defense, the NBU, etc.
