Russian forces are advancing on Ukrainian positions in Avdiivka, deploying thousands of troops and a lot of equipment. The city is under fire because of the ongoing fighting that has been going on for four days. This information was provided by Vitaliy Barabash, head of Avdiivka's city military administration, during a telethon.
"The situation is very hot in the Avdiivka direction. Overnight, if we talk about the community, 13 rockets arrived. There is no precise understanding of the positions at all, there were definitely more than 20 rockets. The fighting has been going on for 4 days, day and night. Small arms battles, artillery is working around the clock. The enemy's assault actions do not stop. The situation is very complicated but under control," he said.
Barabash also confirmed that Russians used incendiary shells during the attacks on the city: "Regarding the incendiary elements they used. Indeed, all this is there. The whole of Avdiivka is burning. Everything is flying. They are hitting with everything available. Not only at the positions, but also in the city and on the road."
According to the head of the city's military administration, the enemy has moved three brigades to the Avdiivka direction.
"Three brigades, if we talk about mechanized ones, it is about 10 thousand people. The number of airborne brigades is slightly less, but it does not make it easier," he said.
Barabash also noted that on the first day of the escalation, October 10, the enemy attacked with three battalions.
"This is almost 2 thousand people at a time. As for the equipment - on the first day of their massive offensive, about 100 units were stormed during the day. On October 11, they hardly used any equipment. On October 12, and today, a lot of equipment is on the move again. Columns of equipment, dozens of vehicles are being burned by our guys. Yesterday, the day before yesterday and today they are burning this equipment. They have a lot of reserves, personnel and equipment," he said, describing the situation.
