Zelensky signed a decree: Ukraine will spend more than 21% of GDP on defense

President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky has signed a decree implementing the decision of the National Security and Defense Council to allocate more than 21% of GDP from the state budget for defense.

"To put into effect the decision of the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine of October 9, 2023 "On Proposals to the Draft Law of Ukraine "On the State Budget for 2024" on articles related to ensuring the national security and defense of Ukraine," the document says.

According to the NSDC decision, the government should provide for a total financial resource for defense of at least 21.6% of GDP when finalizing the draft law on the state budget for 2024.

The Cabinet of Ministers proposed to allocate more than half of all budget resources to this area - UAH 1 trillion 685 billion (about $46 billion).
