The National Anti-Corruption Bureau of Ukraine reports that it has searched the company that supplied the army with thermal imagers worth UAH 1.5 billion with a delay of more than nine months.
The company received almost the full amount of the contract - from 80 to 100% - in advance.
It is suspected of embezzling public funds on a particularly large scale.
The Ministry of Defense filed a lawsuit to recover the receivables and fines. The company was offered to voluntarily hand over the items and documents required by the investigation. After the refusal, a decision was made to conduct a search.
During the search, a safe was broken, which the company representatives did not want to open to detectives.
The foreign companies affiliated with the suppliers are suspected of money laundering, according to the NABU.
