Scholz: Taurus missile decision requires careful consideration

German Chancellor Olaf Scholz explained his decision not to provide Ukraine with Taurus cruise missiles during a press conference at the European Political Community summit in Granada. He noted that this is due to "constitutional restrictions" and the danger of "escalation" of the conflict, Politico reports.

The chancellor answered journalists' questions about the reasons for the delay in providing the missiles, saying that such decisions require careful consideration.

"After all, when the war has been going on for so long, these considerations cannot stop immediately," the politician said.

Olaf Scholz also emphasized that the government should take into account constitutional restrictions and determine what options are available.

"Of course, we have to ensure that there is no escalation of the war and that Germany does not become a part of the conflict. It is also my task as chancellor to ensure this," the chancellor said.

Scholz did not specify which "constitutional restrictions" he was referring to.
