Ukraine plans to revise the system of social benefits by reducing the categories of recipients. This was reported by Minister of Social Policy Oksana Zholnovych in an interview with Interfax-Ukraine.
Zholnovych emphasized that not everyone will be deprived of social benefits, but each payment should be assessed for compliance with real needs.
"I don't want to say that everyone's benefits will be taken away, or that everyone will be deprived of them, and we will have no social payments. This is impossible, it is unreasonable and irrational. But each payment must be assessed for its adequacy. And if it does not carry anything with it, but just happened historically, then, obviously, it should be reformatted into something else, into some support that people will really need and will be effective," the minister said.
In the future, it is planned to maintain temporary categories of social assistance for the needy, poor, unemployed and those who have lost their homes.
"We must not deceive people right away, but clearly say that in your case you have a year to get back on your feet," emphasized Zholnovych.
