Historic meeting of the EU Foreign Affairs Council starts in Kyiv: key aspects

On October 2, a session of the European Union Foreign Affairs Council begins in Kyiv, which is a unique event in history, bringing together representatives of ministries from all 27 EU member states outside the EU. This event was announced by the EU's chief diplomat, Josep Borrell, on his Twitter account, where he noted that "Ukraine's future is within the EU."

"Today, I am convening EU foreign ministers in Kyiv for the first-ever meeting of all 27 member states outside the EU," the statement reads.

The EU foreign ministers made an unexpected visit to Kyiv to hold an informal meeting and demonstrate support for Ukraine in the context of Russia's full-scale military aggression.

Josep Borrell emphasized that support for Ukraine will continue regardless of the development of military events in the coming days and weeks.

He also stated that the EU is obliged to provide constant and structural support, as it is facing an existential threat to Europe.
