The case of the seizure of hunting grounds "Sukholuchchya" in Kyiv region by former President of Ukraine Viktor Yanukovych and his accomplices has been sent to court. They will be tried in absentia. This was reported by the press service of the Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor's Office.
According to the information, the SAPO prosecutor, based on a preliminary investigation conducted by the National Anti-Corruption Bureau, has charged the former President of Ukraine and three other persons with seizing a 17.5-hectare plot of forest land in Sukholutska village council of Kyiv region.
According to the report, in 2007, Yanukovych, who was then Prime Minister, initiated a series of decisions that led to the transfer of the land from state ownership. To carry out this scheme, the former president's allies involved their agents, who applied for land plots of up to 1 hectare in size and then changed the purpose of these plots. This made it possible to transfer the land to a company controlled by Yanukovych.
A hotel and restaurant complex was built on the land plot, which was used by the former president for his personal needs.
Yanukovych's actions are classified as a crime under Article 191(5) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine, and his accomplices are charged under Article 27(5) and Article 191(5) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine.
The investigation of this case began in 2014 and was conducted by the Department of Special Investigations of the General Prosecutor's Office of Ukraine until November 2019.
The case was subsequently transferred to the Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor's Office and the National Anti-Corruption Bureau.
