Russia likely first deployed units of its new 25th Combined Arms Army in mid-September. This formation began moving to Ukraine in late August 2023, according to information posted on Twitter by the UK Ministry of Defense.
According to the report, units of two maneuverable components of the army, the 67th Motorized Rifle Division and the 164th Separate Motorized Rifle Brigade, are currently engaged in combat operations in the area west of Severodonetsk and Kreminna, along the border between Donetsk and Luhansk regions.
According to British intelligence, since the beginning of the invasion, Russia has rarely kept unused army-sized groups that could potentially form the basis for a new large-scale offensive.
"With the 25th Army being deployed in parts to reinforce the overstretched line, a new concerted Russian offensive in the coming weeks is unlikely," the UK Ministry of Defense emphasizes.
As a reminder, the Russian army is trying to advance in the east, while the Ukrainian Armed Forces are attacking in the south.
