New F-35 fighters in Denmark: first steps towards transfer to Ukraine

Four American-made F-35 fighter jets, which are intended to replace outdated F-16s, have landed in Denmark. Some of these F-16s, as promised by Denmark, will be transferred to Ukraine. This was reported by AP.

It is noted that this is the first batch of F-35 aircraft to arrive in Denmark.

The planes marked their arrival at Skridstrup Air Base by high-ranking officials and officers who watched them fly in the colors of the Danish Air Force.

Ukraine has requested the Western fighter jets to strengthen its defense capabilities in the event of the Russian invasion in February 2022.

Denmark has ordered a total of 27 F-35 fighter jets worth $2.2 billion. They will replace the country's fleet of 30 F-16s, which are more than 40 years old, as part of a transition phase that will last until the end of 2025.

Following the ceremonial arrival, the first four aircraft will be officially handed over to Denmark by US manufacturer Lockheed Martin at a ceremony on October 1.
