Finland plans to limit the entry of Russian cars (UPDATED)

Finland is planning to ban the entry of cars with Russian registration, joining the Baltic states in this initiative, reports Yle. Foreign Minister Elina Valtonen is expected to officially announce this today.

This decision is based on the recommendations of the European Commission issued last week. In order to prevent the circumvention of sanctions, the Commission proposes to ban the entry of cars with Russian registration.

The Estonian Foreign Minister, Margus Tsahkna, has previously stated that sanctions have a greater impact when applied together, increasing the price Russia pays for its actions.

According to Yle, passenger cars registered in Russia with less than ten passengers will no longer be able to cross the border. However, some exceptions to this rule are planned. There is currently no information on the exact date of the ban.

At the same time, an EU citizen will be able to drive such a car if he or she lives in Russia permanently, and exceptions apply to his or her family members. In addition, the owners of the sanctioned cars will be given six months to sell the banned cars in the country.
