Russian General Sergei Surovikin, formerly associated with Yevgeny Prigozhin, was released after the death of the PMC head, The New York Times reports, citing sources.

After the failure of the PMC coup, Surovikin disappeared from the public space and, according to some sources, was detained. However, he was released only after Prigozhin's death.

Insiders the NYT spoke to say that while Surovikin has been released from custody, it is unclear whether there are any restrictions on him at this time.

Surovikin remains a general and an officer, but his professional career no longer has any prospects, the source said.

Last month, he was officially removed from the post of head of the Russian Aerospace Forces.

As we reported earlier, Russian General Surovikin made his first public appearance after Prigozhin's rebellion. The photo with the general and his family was published by Ksenia Sobchak.
