The Verkhovna Rada is considering changes to the law on mobilization

A draft law has been submitted to the Verkhovna Rada that would authorize employees of public utilities and homeowners to perform a number of functions in relation to citizens subject to military service.

According to the proposal, they will be able to issue summonses to persons liable for military service and collect information about men who are subject to military service. It also envisages their participation in organizing the arrival of these citizens to the military registration and enlistment office. The draft law also offers the possibility of involving people who, for various reasons, cannot or do not want to participate in military operations, in defense tasks.

The explanatory note to the draft law states that coercive measures and threats to mobilize citizens for military service have a negative impact on the economy and create unnecessary social tension. According to the authors of the draft law, this approach may also create the impression that there is a lack of patriots willing to defend the country.
